Today we met the wonderful couple from Madrid who will exchange their home for ours in less than two weeks. They are lovely, lively, warm and exactly like we imagined they would be. We are so happy to have their good energy in our home while we are gone.
With only a few days until we leave, I have a bad cold to cure before the plane ride! Nothing is worse than flying when you aren't feeling well. Zicam, Vitamin C, lots of water and a hot toddy before bed for good measure.
We are excited and eager to go. Good friends from Miami happen to be in Madrid at the same time we are. She was born in Madrid and without either of us knowing the timing, they had planned a trip to see her family during the time we will be there. Looking forward to seeing familiar and loved faces during our first week in a strange city!
I guess most of you know that I am a late bloomer in the travel world. Many of my friends have been there, done that. I am often surprised when talking with old friends that they have traveled much more than I had ever known. So much for keeping your nose on the grindstone and ignoring life! Retirement is like grandchildren: if I had known it was this much fun, I would have done it first. Play and travel for 20+ years, then work until you drop!
I keep saying to Barrie, "My Turn", "My Turn"! He says we need to live to be 150 to get all the travel wishes filled. Then he takes my hand and we go out our front door! Sometimes the doorways we enter are as expected and sometimes they are wonderfully full of surprises. We will be looking for wonderful surprises behind the doorways in Madrid.
And Barrie? He has already planned the football (soccer) games he will see! Yes - Madrid is getting real. Real Madrid.
